Acanthus mollis 'Hollard's Gold'

Description

This species is hardier than most realize and deserves greater recognition as a handsome back-of-the-border anchor in mild climates, yielding large, grayish green leaves on stems to 8 ft. or taller with copious cups of lavender in late winter through early summer. It is always surprising for us to come across this delicate-appearing creature in lovely blossom at a time when we are still assaulted by chilled temperatures. Full sun (ours thrives with sun only from mid-day onward) and sharply draining soil imperative.
