Hydrangea aspera Kawakamii Group

Description

The robust Taiwanese form of Hydrangea aspera, tall-growing with lovely felted green leaves and terminal heads of fertile florets possessing deep violet stamens, which contrast beautifully with the surrounding brilliant white, sterile florets. This hydrangea opens quite late in Kingston, usually not before late August or early September. The floral display is worth waiting for. Best in zone 7 and south; provide additional protection in zone 6.
