Our favorite shrubs for the shade garden make wonderful backdrops for woodland perennials. Weigela' Jitsuko's Gold' brings lightness in the shade, with bright chartreuse young leaves in early spring. Later, plants become splendent with dense clusters in soft pink. Hydrangea 'Taube' stands upright, with lovely blue to pink clusters in mid summer. Viburnum 'Brandywine' adds vibrant color all season. The spring white blooms are framed by glossy, green leaves that turn reddish in autumn. Pink to blue berries tip branches in winter.
