Helwingia chinensis - broadleaf form

Description

An exciting shrub for mild parts of the U.S., brandishing broad evergreen foliage that emerges in tones of deep purple with small clusters of ivory flowers sitting smack dab in the middle of each leaf; in actuality, the petiole and peduncle are fused, providing a glimpse into the marvelous intricacies of the natural world. Purple fruit ripens atop each leaf if both sexes are present. This has proven to be an exceptional component of our woodland, in light shade and well-drained soil where it has not, as of yet, shown any damage from the coldest of temperatures we have provided.
