Description
This dwarf cultivar of Cryptomeria we acquired from J.C. Raulston in Heronswood's early days. Very slowly but steadily develops into a dense globe-shaped specimen; our original plant is now 3 ft. x 3 ft after 20 years. In addition to its well-behaved habit, its foliage looks spiny but is soft and almost plastic in texture. In winter its rich bright green color transitions to purplish russet, adding a rich flavor to the winter landscape in our garden. Best in full sun and well-drained soil.
